A Crystal Palace Team of 16 level two divers travelled north to Leeds to compete in the White Rose Diving Cup in Leeds. The White Rose is an important, well established two day annual Novice Skills competition where Crystal Palace had never before won the team trophy.
Sixteen clubs entered with a total of 129 divers competing. We had divers entered in five of the eight events and we won gold medals in each of those events along with one silver, a bronze and 13 divers finished in the top ten.
Well done to all the 16 divers who scored their Level 2 Skills points qualifying for the National Skills on 5/6 May in Southampton next year..
The girls 8 & 9yrs was the first competition, Amelia Connolly took our first gold and her team mate Louise Bradley put in a good performance finishing 5th in the finals, with her points counting towards the trophy.
Next up was the largest event the girls 10 & 11’s with 42 entries. We had an incredible result taking all top six places in the finals. Scarlett Mew Jenson won gold with two perfect 10’s on her final dive. Silver and bronze went to Alison Roffey and Tia Monk with 4th, 5th and 6th going to Rhiannon David, Abby Glyn (the prelim winner) and Ciara McGng. There were also strong performances from Ella Edwards 8th, Florence Smith 9th, Evie Malin 16th and Georgia Valasco 28th.
We had only one diver in each of the final three events. All three divers took gold in their respective events. Olivia Jones won the Girls 12 & 13 years by a tiny margin of 1.45 points over Leed’s diver Grace Denny. Noah Williams won the Boys 10 & 11’s comfortably and Ford Fagan under pressure after the success of his team mates managed to hold his nerve and win the Boys 12 &13 competition.
Well done divers for producing Crystal Palace’s best ever result at the White Rose and bringing the trophy home!
