noviceskills2012Crystal Palace take top Club place at ASA National Skills for the fourth consecutive year.

29 divers travelled to Southampton for National Skills the first weekend in May.  We entered six of the ten events and won 9 medals including 3 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronzes.

Girls 10 years: There were 19 starts with 5 from Crystal Palace.  Louise Bradley took  silver with scores as high as 9s, 8.5s  and 8s, Lucy Sefton took bronze with a 9 score on her poolside tuck dive.  Runner up places went to Heidi Florian-Stargard 4th, Anais Daly-Gourdialsing 5th and Andrea Anderson 6th

Boys 10 & 11years: Pele Julian was our single entry, he led throughout the 12 dive competition with 6 x 9s.  Unfortunately Pele went over on his back dive to miss bronze by the smallest of margins, just 0.05 points and silver by less than a point.

Girls 11 years: In this event we took our first Gold. Ciara McGing had the competition of her life scoring 3 x 9s and 8 x 8s finishing with a very impressive 314.25. Florence Smith took bronze just  1 point ahead of team mate Ella Edwards with Betty Burke and Lucy Baxter finishing 5th and 6th.  A very impressive top six finish from our divers where there were 29 entries.  Jada Umo 12th, scored 7s and above on seven dives and Georgia Valasco 21st ,  with 8s on two dives and gained valuable experience and looked far more polished.

Boys  12 & 13 years: Here we took our second gold in a very large 34 entry event.  The battle was between our two of our 5 divers, Francis Papworth and Ford Fagan.  Both boys broke the 300 barrier and it came down to wire.  In the end Francis prevailed with the gold medal beating Ford into silver position by just 0.15 points.  Cameron Mayor 16th, Ben Fifield  23rd and Ryan Rhodes gaining valuable experience in what was their first big competition.

Girls 12 years: CP had 8 divers of the 27 entries.   Rhiannon David won gold by just 0.10 from Tia Monk who scored 311.90 to take the silver.  Abby Glynn missed bronze by less than 3pts and Alison Roffey finished 5th.  Excellent performances were put in by Marisa Conner 7th, Evie Mailin 12th, Chloe Hembry 14th and Cerys Carter 19th.

Girls 13 years:  Beatrice Kennedy who is still very new to diving was our sole entry in this event. She dived well above her training standard to take the silver medal with a very consistent list of dives.

Unfortunately Olivia Jones had to withdraw from the Girls 14+ year competition with an injured foot.

Well done Crystal Palace divers and coaches on winning the most medals again at Nationals.  A fantastic result again; England’s top Club at National Level Two since 2008
