Palace Divers Win At Junior Nationals

Crystal Palace divers continued their successful competitive season with important wins at Junior Elite Nationals in Plymouth at the weekend.

There was a total of 13 medals including 6 x Gold, 3 x Silver and 4 x Bronze.

Two divers, Florence Smith and Maria Papworth are also in the frame for selection for Junior European Championships with their Gold and Silvers in the girl’s 14 – 15 age group category.

Callie Eaglestone had the best result of the competition winning all four of her competitions in the 11 to 13 years with team-mate Evie Smith getting a gold and two bronzes. Callie’s result qualifies her for her first England Cap when she competes in Barcelona in July.

Maria Papworth put in a fantastic 1 metre performance winning both the the prelim and the finals in the girls 14 – 15 years and won a silver in the 3 metre synchro event with Scarlett Mew-Jenson and Maria picked up a further bronze in the 3 metre competition. A Bronze medal was also won by Amelia Connolly on the Girls High board.

One of the best results was from 14 year old Florence Smith who jumped from 5th place to 2nd on her final dive after scoring 72 points with her forward 3 1/2 somersaults off 10 metre.
